You can. The work is choosing, downloading and organizing about 55 GB of maps, references and AI models, setting it all up to run offline, pairing and test-messaging the radios, and checking that everything works. PrepPhone arrives ready, with no subscription.
Each kit is set up and tested by hand, and orders go out in the order they come in. You get an email with tracking when it ships. If you need it by a certain date, email us before you order.
Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
No. Everything works without a plan, Wi-Fi or any signal. Add a SIM card if you want calls and texts over a carrier, but nothing in the kit depends on one.
Yes. The maps, library, AI, translation, star map and tools are stored on the phone. The mesh radios talk to each other directly by radio.
PrepPhone's own apps have no account and send nothing anywhere, and Ask runs on the phone, not on a server. Google's assistant is turned off. With no SIM and no Wi-Fi, the phone has no connection at all. If you add one, Android's built-in services may connect, as on any Android phone.
Usually a few miles, depending on hills, trees and buildings, and farther from high ground. Every extra radio in range relays messages and extends it. You can add more radios later, and they work with any Meshtastic radio.
Yes, over USB. Mail it in and we'll send it back updated. Nothing updates on its own.
Defects are covered for one year on the phone and 90 days on the panel, cable and radios. Drops, cracks and water damage beyond the IP68 rating aren't covered, but we can usually repair or replace it for a fee.
